Inhibition of leukocyte acid phosphatase by heparin.

چکیده
For some time we have been concerned with the role of alkaline and acid phosphatases (orthophosphoric monoesten phosphohydrolases, EC 3.1.3.1 and EC 3.1.3.2, respectively) in polymorphonuclear leukocytes, particularly as regards variation in disease states and factors that might regulate the activity within the cell (1-4). Here we demonstrate that relatively small concentrations of heparin profoundly inhibit leukocyte acid phosphatase, but have no effect on the alkaline-active enzyme.

Characterization of Acid Phosphatase in the Promastigotes of Three Isolates of Leishmania major
Background: Acid phosphatase (ACP) is suggested to be one of the virulence factors in leishmania and a correlation has been reported between Leishmanial acid phosphatase (ACP) activity and the severity of the disease in all types of leishmaniasis including zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ZCL), which is a polymorphic disease. Objective: Characterization of leishmania and its correlation with t...
متن کاملAnionic polymers. II. Inhibition of ribonuclease.
The hydrolysis of ribonucleic acid or a number of pyrimidine nucleotide 3’-phosphate esters as catalyzed by pancreatic ribonuclease is generally regarded as occurring in a biphasic fashion, the first phase involving formation of nucleoside-2’, 3’-cyclic phosphates, whereas the second involves hydrolysis of the cyclic intermediate to 3’-nucleoside phosphoric acids (1). Reports of inhibition of R...
متن کاملStudies on leukocyte phosphatases. II. Inhibition of leukocyte alkaline phosphatase by amino acids and its reversal by zinc.
The activity of leukocyte alkaline phosphatase is inhibited by a number of amino acids, most notably cysteine and histidine. The mechanism of this inhibition involves chelation of Zn2+ by the amino acids, as indicated by the complete reversal of the inhibition by added Zn2+. The concentrations of amino acids and Zn2 required to affect the enzyme activity are such that their interaction might re...
متن کاملHeparin also interacts with selectins and modulates the cell adhesion process.
Modulates the Cell Adhesion Process To the Editor: We read with great interest the article by Peter and coworkers1 in the October 5, 1999 issue of Circulation in which the authors demonstrated the binding of heparin to integrin Mac-1 on stimulated leukocytes. Recent investigations have revealed that heparin can modulate biological processes, such as binding to adhesion receptors on endothelial ...

Inhibition of antibacterial activity of polymorphonuclear leukocytic lysosomal cationic proteins by a polyanion, heparin, can be reversed by addition of the basic nuclear protein, clupeine.
